Are you going to export? Then you need the Digital certificate of Origin
Monday - June 21, 2021
Exporting can be challenging for the micro and small entrepreneur who is not yet in the foreign trade. But with the Digital Certificate of Origin (COD), the process can become cheaper and safer.

But what is COD? The Digital Certificate of origin (COD) is an export document that certies the origin of the exported merchandise and grants tariff benefits to the importer, such as the reduction or exemption of taxes. Used since 2017 by Brazil and its main economic partners in South America, COD meets rigid safety standards and is therefore highly reliable. The digital signatures contained in this document guarantee authenticity as to the authorship and integrity of the content, increasing the security of transactions between the countries of the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) with the same legal validity of Physical certificates of origin.

Therefore, using COD enables the export and decomplicates the life of the entrepreneur, since it debureaucratizes foreign trade operations, makes the information faster and reduces direct costs of services.

How do I issue? The documents required are the same as the certificate of Origin on paper:

• The exporter must possess the Digital certificate e-CPF A-1 or A-3, which is the Digital identity of the physical person in the electronic medium, also known as CPF Digital.

• The document is digitally signed by the exporter or representative in the IPPEX system itself.

• The certifying entity analyzes the data and issues the Digital certificate of origin, which is an XML file.

• Shortly after the XML file is made available to the exporter, who forwards to the importer, responsible for sending the document to the customs.

• Agility in Analysis and emission: from two days to only 30 minutes, on average. • Cost reduction: eliminates paper costs, printing, authentication, displacements for document submission and storage.

• Sustainability: The digital signature of the document eliminates the use of paper, without additional authentication and with legal validity. Attitudes like this contribute to the recovery of the environment.

• Greater security: eliminates the risk of losing documents and ensures document integrity.

• Reduces downtime on the frontier: ease and agility in communication between exporters, customs and issuing entities.

• Tax reduction or exemption: some goods benefit from preferential tariff treatment in importing countries that have bilateral trade agreements with Brazil.

• Greater business possibility: Digitally sign extends the chances of business with any country in the world.
